Conductors and Insulators
While much matter has an electric charge, not everything can carry a current. Matter that is good at carrying a current is called a conductor. The atoms in conductors lose electrons fairly easily. Metals are good conductors, as well. The metals copper and silver are two of the best conductors.
Matter that does not carry a current well is called an insulator. Air is a good insulator. Rubber and wood are insulators, too. People who work with electricity often wear shoes with rubber bottoms. This keeps electricity from flowing through the ground and into their bodies.
